Sample teardown
An illustrative example of what a teardown looks like. The product and company are fictional, but every issue shown is one we see regularly in real materials.
Illustrative example. “Product X” is a fictional fixed-wing reconnaissance UAS. Specifications below are invented for demonstration. Real client work is published only with written approval.
Product X
Fixed-wing reconnaissance UAS. Materials reviewed: two-page English datasheet, 14-slide buyer deck, website product page.
First impression
What a procurement officer takes away in the first two minutes.
The buyer can tell Product X is a reconnaissance drone. They cannot tell how long it flies, under what conditions, what it carries, or what support comes with it, without reading every page and doing their own calculations.
The datasheet opens with company history rather than the product. Performance figures are scattered across three sections and given without test conditions. Claims such as “excellent reliability” have no evidence attached. The deck and datasheet give different endurance figures.
Selected findings
Four of eleven, from the full report.
| Area | Finding | Why it matters | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consistency | Endurance is 90 minutes in the datasheet and 120 minutes in the deck. | Conflicting figures are the fastest way to lose a buyer’s trust. | High |
| Evidence | Performance figures have no test conditions (payload, temperature, wind). | Buyers can’t compare the figures against competitors or their own requirements. | High |
| Structure | Specifications start on page two, after company history. | Buyers compare products side by side. Specifications belong first. | High |
| Support | No information on training, spares, warranty or lead times. | These are standard evaluation criteria and their absence signals risk. | High |
Before and after
Sample rewrites from the report.
Before
Our UAV has high reliability and was tested in real combat conditions with excellent results.
After
Mean time between failures: 180 flight hours, recorded across 400 operational sorties between March and September. Test summary available under NDA.
Before
Flight duration: up to 2 hours.
After
Endurance: 90 min with 1.2 kg payload at 15 °C, wind up to 10 m/s. 120 min without payload.
Before
The complex is equipped with the modern means of protection from the enemy radio-electronic struggle.
After
Designed to operate in contested electromagnetic environments, with resistance to jamming and GNSS denial. Details available to qualified buyers.
Client work
We publish client work only with written approval, and many clients prefer not to be named. References from past clients are available on request once an NDA is in place.
